summer holidays - Rheinland-Pfalz: Good water quality in almost all bathing lakes

Diving into summer vacations: Most official swimming pools in Rheinland-Pfalz have good water quality at the start of the holidays - with a few exceptions. There are currently blue-green algae warning levels at four pools, according to a spokesperson for the Rhineland-Pfalz Environmental Agency (LfU). These were detected at the Krombach Reservoir, Baumholder City Pond, Diez Excavation Pond, and Eich Bathing Lake.

Water containing algae can cause nausea, diarrhea, or skin rashes, especially when ingested or comes into contact with mucous membranes. When blue-green algae blooms are visible on the water surface, bathers are advised to find another swimming spot. "Especially children should not swallow the water or come into contact with it," said the LfU spokesperson. However, there is no general swimming ban for the pools in the warning zone.

In most of the 66 EU bathing waters in Rheinland-Pfalz, it is safe to swim and bathe without concern. Those who want to be extra cautious should pay attention to warning signs before entering the water: "Always pay attention to the warnings on site - that's the A and O," said the spokesperson.
