vacation instead of school desk - Rheinland-Pfalz begins summer vacations

For students in Rhineland-Palatinate, it means from today: Holidays instead of school desk. Most of them are particularly happy that the stress brought by school can be forgotten for a while, says Emma Lucke, spokesperson for the Rhineland-Palatinate student representation. For many, going on vacation or meetings with friends at the swimming pool is a reason for joy.

For more than 430,000 students of the comprehensive schools in Rhineland-Palatinate, today was the last school day before the summer holidays. At the end of the school year, however, means report cards. For students who are not satisfied with their report cards, Lucke advises: "Grades should not define the self-worth of a person. It's okay to be disappointed if some grades don't look as expected." Class or course leaderships are a good place for talks. "On the other hand, honesty is usually the best way to find a solution, perhaps even together with their parents."

According to the forecast of the German Weather Service (DWD), there could be strong thunderstorms at the start of the holidays. However, the weather is expected to improve by Sunday: It should be at least dry with up to 26 degrees. The holidays in Rhineland-Palatinate last until August 25.

Emma Lucke, the spokesperson for the Rhineland-Palatinate student representation, suggests that students who aren't satisfied with their report cards should not define their self-worth by grades. They can seek advice from their class or course leaderships for improvement. Despite the unfavorable weather forecast for the start of the summer holidays in Rhineland-Palatinate, students can still enjoy their leisure activities in Mainz, such as visiting the School Bank or the local swimming pool, once the weather improves. Many students in Rhineland-Palatinate, including those who go to traffic schools, are looking forward to their holidays, which is a much-needed break from the usual traffic-related stress.
