That in Switzerland - Revengeful murder? Defendant remains silent in trial
A 25-year-old man, who is accused of murdering a resident of a shelter in Switzerland, will stand trial in court starting today. At the beginning of the trial at the Braunschweig District Court, he remained silent. Therefore, only the indictment was read out. The prosecution accuses the man of having killed the victim on the evening of June 13, 2023, in Haute-Nendaz.
The 25-year-old German-Afghan is said to have stabbed the victim in the chest with a long army knife with a serrated blade. The prosecution alleges that the defendant and his sister wanted to avenge the allegedly violent death of their father in 2022. They believed that the asylum seeker had killed their father.
Revenge plan of the accused and his sister
According to the indictment, the defendant and his sister had found the victim on social media. The sister, who now lives in Pakistan, then built a false relationship with the asylum seeker. Initially, this relationship was purely online. The woman then planned a supposed surprise meeting for the day of the crime. To this end, she had previously contacted a friend of the asylum seeker, who was supposed to lure the victim to the crime scene. The sister herself did not appear there.
The defendant had reportedly scouted the crime scene near a parking lot beforehand, according to the information available. The friend of the victim is also being investigated separately by the authorities, according to the prosecution.
At the crime scene, the defendant pretended to have phone problems with his mobile phone. He used this distraction to attack the victim. The injured man then fled and later collapsed heavily bleeding on a parking lot. The defendant's mobile phone was buried with him at the scene. The death of the victim was later discovered by a cyclist. The defendant and his girlfriend fled after the crime, leaving his jacket and the murder weapon nearby.
Next hearing: Witnesses from Switzerland to testify
The next court hearing is scheduled for the end of July. Police from Switzerland are expected to be heard then, the presiding judge said. The Swiss police are still investigating the case and expect to complete their investigations this month.
The court will also rule on the detention conditions again before the second or third trial day in August. The defendant is currently in solitary confinement.
The 25-year-old is currently facing charges of 'Mord' at the Braunschweig District Court, due to his alleged involvement in the 'Tod' of a resident in Switzerland. The 'prosecution' argues that the 'criminality' committed in Haute-Nendaz was a result of the defendant's revenge plan against an asylum seeker, whom they believed was responsible for their father's 'Tod' in 2022. The 'Braunschweig Regional Court' is providing 'Asylum accommodation' for the defendant during the 'process (court)' in Germany. The 'Lower Saxony' public prosecutor's office is overseeing the case. The defendant's actions have been deemed 'Useful' for the investigators, as his mobile phone was found buried at the crime scene.
