War in Ukraine - Reports: Kiev troops give positions in the southeast

Ukrainian troops have reportedly withdrawn from positions in the Southeastern part of the country at Krynky in the Cherson region and Uroschajne in the Donezk region under Russian pressure. "It made no sense anymore to hold these positions due to the extensive damages," sources in the Ukrainian military headquarters were quoted as saying in Ukrainian media. The fighting for the settlement of Krynky on the southern bank of the Dnipro River in the Cherson region was criticized from the outset due to its futility.

It was initially unclear whether Ukrainian soldiers were still present in the lower Dnipro region on the southern bank. Uroschajne in the Donezk region was previously retaken by the Ukrainian counteroffensive last year and was considered a symbol of the Ukrainian advance.

According to a report by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, Ukrainian units have allegedly pushed the enemy back by up to two kilometers in the Charkiw region near the Russian border. Similar unverifiable advances were reported from forested areas near the village of Serebrjanka in the Donezk region.

Ukraine has been defending itself against Russian invasion for over two years. Almost a fifth of Ukrainian territory is under Russian control. The Kremlin is demanding further territorial concessions for possible peace talks to fully occupy the partially occupied territories of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson.

  1. Despite the Ukrainian troops' withdrawal from Krynky and Uroschajne, there were rumors of their presence continuing in the lower Dnipro region.
  2. The military confrontations in the Southeastern part of Ukraine, including areas like Krynky and Donetsk, have resulted in significant damages and losses for both sides.
  3. The strategic town of Uroschajne, located in the Donezk region and symbolizing the Ukrainian advances, has once again become a focus of the ongoing conflicts between Ukraine and Russia.
  4. The Ukrainian military, with recent reported advances in the Charkiw region and near Serebrjanka in the Donezk region, is attempting to push back against Russian forces along the border.
  5. Russia's continued aggression and territorial demands in regions like Luhansk and Donetsk have escalated the tensions between Russia and Ukraine, prolonging the war and creating major challenges for peace efforts.
