US campaign - Reports: Advisors have doubts about Biden's victory in the election
Some advisors to US-President Joe Biden are reportedly not convinced that the 81-year-old can win the presidency against his republican challenger Donald Trump in the November election. In the past few days, they have reportedly tried to find ways to convince Biden to drop out, according to the "New York Times," citing unnamed sources.
Biden remains firmly convinced that he wants to stay in the race. His closest advisors, including his family, also support this, the newspaper reports.
White House denies report
The White House denied the report that Biden's team is not fully behind him. "That's clearly not true," the newspaper quoted Andrew Bates, a White House spokesperson, as saying. "President Biden's team is fully behind him."
But US network NBC also reported that several of Biden's associates see the chances of winning the election in November as zero. "He has to drop out," the network quoted an unnamed representative from Biden's campaign team as saying. "He'll never get over it."
Biden under pressure
Biden has been under pressure to withdraw from the race for almost two weeks now. He has gathered the necessary number of delegate votes at the Democratic Party primaries to be nominated as the candidate at the Democratic Party convention in August. Therefore, only he can decide to withdraw.
However, some supporters and party members are questioning whether Biden still has the necessary mental fitness for a second term following the TV debate against Trump. This discussion is also casting a shadow over the NATO summit, which is currently taking place in the US capital Washington. New doubters are emerging daily. However, the 81-year-old is holding steadfast to his candidacy.
- Despite the report in the "New York Times" suggesting some advisors are pushing for Biden's withdrawal, the White House firmly asserts that "President Biden's team is fully behind him" in the upcoming Presidential election.
- The United States of America is gearing up for the US Election 2024, with incumbent US-President Joe Biden facing a challenge from his Republican adversary, Donald Trump.
