Robert Francis Kennedy Jr., nephew of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, is running as an independent candidate in the U.S. presidential election

- Report on the trade offer:

Independent presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is said to have expressed interest in a cabinet position with Kamala Harris if the Democratic candidate wins the race for the White House. According to the Washington Post, Kennedy recently requested a meeting with Harris to discuss the possibility of serving in her administration, potentially as a cabinet secretary. In exchange, the 70-year-old is reportedly willing to support the vice president and rally his supporters to vote for Harris.

However, neither Harris nor her advisors have responded to Kennedy's request or shown interest in his proposal, the newspaper reports, citing sources familiar with the discussions.

Just last month, Kennedy met with Republican candidate Donald Trump to discuss a potential role in his administration if the former president reclaims the office on November 5. The two men had a "lengthy conversation" about a future role for Bobby in the government and what that role might look like, according to an insider from Kennedy's campaign cited by the US news site Mediaite. However, Trump was unable to convince Kennedy to drop out of the race and support him.

As an independent candidate, Kennedy has no chance of becoming US president himself - no third-party candidate has made it to the Oval Office in 170 years. However, with his surprising success in the campaign, Kennedy's son of the late US Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy could potentially swing decisive votes to Harris or Trump in the tight race. According to a Pew Research Center poll from Wednesday, seven percent of respondents currently support Kennedy, while Harris and Trump are neck and neck with 46 and 45 percent, respectively.

Despite Kennedy's meeting with Harris to discuss a potential cabinet position during her election campaign, there appears to be no progress or response from her side. If Trump wins the election, Kennedy has previously expressed interest in joining his campaign, but has not yet withdrawn from his own election campaign.
