Report: FDP plans stronger regulation of the right to strike

The FDP-Bundestag faction intends to limit the right to strike, according to the "Südeutsche Zeitung." The paper reported on Tuesday evening that the faction passed a position paper demanding rules for strikes in critical infrastructure sectors. These sectors would reportedly include the railway, aviation, healthcare and care, kindergartens, fire departments, and waste disposal.

In these areas, strikes should reportedly be announced at least three days in advance according to the Liberals' will. Additionally, a minimum of 50% emergency operation must be maintained, and warning strikes should not last more than four hours. A mediation attempt should also be mandatory, according to the paper, as soon as the employers or unions request it. These rules can be changed in collective bargaining agreements.

Recently, Table.Media reported on the plans of the FDP faction, as the proposal was in the internal factional voting process. Unions, SPD, and Greens reject the FDP proposal.

The concerns raised by unions against the FDP's proposal to limit the right to strike mainly revolve around potential regulatory interference. The report published by Table.Media highlighted that various organizations, including the SPD and Greens, have strong objections to the proposed regulations for strikes in critical infrastructure sectors. The implementation of these new rules might require significant infrastructure adjustments within these sectors, which could pose further challenges.
