Report: China promotes authoritarian governance in emerging nations.
The United States-based research organization, Atlantic Council, recently published a report revealing that China is working tirelessly to propagate its authoritarian government model in underdeveloped countries. The report states that Beijing organized seminars and training sessions for government officials in Africa and Latin America, referencing over 400 publicly available documents from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
Author Niva Yau explained that China is attempting to promote its one-party system as a "successful development model" that other countries could copy. Yau concludes that the Chinese government is making concerted efforts to spread its authoritarian system in developing countries. However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has not yet responded to inquiries about the report.
Some of the initiatives mentioned in the report include an online seminar for advisors and cabinet members in developing countries, aiming to enhance the global influence of the Chinese government system. The document from the Ministry of Commerce indicates that the June 2021 seminar focused on "President Xi Jinping's views on national government administration."
