Report: 150 places of refuge in the Gaza Strip
According to an Israeli media report, there are around 150 places of refuge for civilians seeking protection in the Gaza Strip. These were not attacked by the army, the Times of Israel reported, citing the Israeli Cogat authority responsible for contacts with the Palestinians. These included schools and other public institutions. According to the report, the UN passes on the coordinates of these buildings to Israel.
According to the report, there is also the approximately 20 square kilometer "humanitarian zone" in Al-Mawasi, which the army is also not attacking. However, according to the army, Hamas had previously fired rockets towards Israel from the area.
According to eyewitness reports, the situation in Al-Mawasi is very precarious, with a lack of food and shelter. At the request of the Israeli army, hundreds of thousands of people seeking protection fled from the initially fiercely contested north to the south of the sealed-off coastal area. In the meantime, the army has also intensified its fighting in the south of the Gaza Strip.
According to UN figures, there are now almost 1.9 million internally displaced persons in the coastal strip - out of a total population of more than 2.2 million. In view of the suffering and displacement of Palestinian civilians, international criticism of the Israeli army's actions is growing.
The war was triggered by the worst massacre in Israel's history, carried out by terrorists from Hamas and other extremist groups on October 7 in Israel near the border with the Gaza Strip. More than 1200 people were killed. According to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, more than 17,000 people have now been killed in the Gaza Strip as a result of the subsequent Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. This cannot be independently verified at present.

The Israeli media report mentioned that there are 150 places of refuge near the Gaza Strip, which were not targeted during the war. These safe havens include schools and other public institutions, with the UN providing Israel with their coordinates. Despite the humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi being spared from military action due to its proximity to the Gaza Strip, it has become a place of distress for civilians, who have fled there due to the intense fighting in other areas.
