Remains found in Hesse: Police suspect criminal activity.

In the Hessian region, authorities have been on a manhunt for two women for roughly two weeks. A corpse has been discovered at a reservoir, suggesting and confirmed by the prosecutor's office and Darmstadt police that one of the missing women, aged 40, was the victim of a heinous act.

The lifeless body was unearthed at a gravel pit lake in the southern Hessian town of Bensheim. Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased is likely one of the pair of missing individuals who've been absent for about two weeks. The incident seems to be related to a violent crime.

In addition, investigators are tracking down a 49-year-old woman from the victim's inner circle. The exact link between the women's disappearances and the crime remains uncertain, as per the official statement. The body was found by a passerby on Sunday near the Erlache gravel pit lake.

The Darmstadt police and prosecutor's office are almost certain that the body belongs to the missing 40-year-old female, who vanished on June 4. Initially, the police announced that they were looking for her and her mother-in-law. As of now, the motive behind the crime is still completely unknown.

The Darmstadt police headquarters has launched a murder inquiry, involving over 35 police officers and investigators. Currently, investigators suspect that the location where the body was found is not the crime scene, with the search at the lake still ongoing. A hotline will be activated later in the day. Witnesses are encouraged to come forward.
