Relatives' Group Urges Citywide Strike and Major Protest in Tel Aviv following the liberation of Hamas Captives
After the retrieval of six deceased Hamas captives from the Gaza Strip, the Hostages' Families Forum has encouraged a nationwide strike in Israel and a significant protest in Tel Aviv. The intention is to exert pressure on the administration to promptly ink an accord for the liberation of the remaining hostages, the forum stated on a Sunday.
The forum appealed to the prominent Israeli labor association, Histadrut, to participate in the strike commencing Sunday night. Various organizations declared solidarity actions to assist the hostages' families. As an example, a prominent cinema chain and numerous dining establishments intend to shut down on Sunday evening.
Additionally, opposition leader Jair Lapid endorsed a nationwide strike. Referring to the six hostages now confirmed murdered, Lapid stated, "They were still alive, but Netanyahu and his cabinet of death opted not to rescue them."
Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Joav Gallant encouraged his cabinet colleagues to invalidate their earlier resolution to sustain a consistent Israeli military presence in the supposed Philadelphi Corridor, which divides the Gaza Strip from Egypt. The presence of Israeli troops in this border area is a contentious matter in negotiations regarding a truce in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages. Gallant recommended that the government "convene at once and revoke the decision made on Thursday."
Approximately 100 hostages remain captive by Hamas and other radical Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli sources, with 33 fatalities confirmed.
The General strike called by the Hostages' Families Forum, as endorsed by opposition leader Jair Lapid, is set to commence from Sunday night. In solidarity with the hostages' families, various organizations have planned to partake in the strike and shut down their operations, including a prominent cinema chain and numerous dining establishments.
