Recognition of Additional International Nursing Qualifications by Authorities
The past year saw a 25% surge in foreign professional qualifications approval by German authorities compared to the year prior, according to the Federal Statistical Office. The majority of approvals were granted to nurses. Germany received the highest number of applications from Turkey. Since 2016, the overall application count has almost doubled.
Germany has witnessed an upward trend in the acceptance rate of foreign workforce professionals' qualifications, with the Federal Statistical Office reporting 65,300 approvals last year. This rise was notably higher than the 11% increase observed in the preceding year. Approximately 800 approvals were turned down.
Approximately 70% of the approvals concerned medical professions. Over half of all approvals (56%) were for nursing qualifications. Nursing, in turn, was followed by medical doctors (14%), engineers, educators, and teaching staff (10%).
Out of the 61,300 applications, 94% were submitted by non-Germans. One out of every ten approved qualifications was issued in Turkey. Following Turkey were Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Philippines, Tunisia, Syria, India, and Ukraine.
New applications increased by 26% to 62,100 last year. A total of 81,700 procedures were handled. Since 2016, when statistical surveys began, applications have approximately doubled.
The increase in foreign professional qualifications approval in Germany, particularly in medical fields like nursing, can contribute positively to the country's overall care system. As a result, Germany has seen a significant influx of nursing professionals from countries like Turkey, which account for a substantial number of approved qualifications.
