- Recent volcanic outburst occurs in Iceland.
In Iceland, the earth is spewing lava in large quantities once more. Last Thursday night, the sixth volcanic eruption in eight months commenced on the North Atlantic island. Raw footage from RUV broadcast revealed lava flowing from a lengthy fissure situated on the Reykjanes peninsula, southwest of Reykjavik, the capital city. The broadcaster stated that a significant earthquake occurred beforehand.
The peninsula has experienced such fissure eruptions since March 2021, as molten rock surfaced from an extended crevice within the earth's crust. However, it remains uncertain if this latest eruption poses a threat to the coastal settlement of Grindavík, which has been evacuated on numerous occasions before. As a precaution, inhabitants were moved out once more, according to RUV, as reported by the fire department.
Lava from a previous eruption had devastated numerous properties on Grindavík's outskirts in January. This quaint village sits approximately 40 kilometers southwest of Reykjavik.
The Reykjanes peninsula, with its history of volcanic activity, is once again grappling with a new eruption. This latest volcanic event has prompted the evacuation of Grindavík, a village that has been affected by lava in the past.
