- Randale near Downing Street after knife attack
Following the fatal stabbing in Southport, a protest by British far-right extremists near the government seat of Downing Street escalated. TV footage showed clashes between right-wing protesters and police. According to media reports, rioters threw bottles, cans, and even fireworks at the Downing Street fence. At least one man was arrested.
The protest was held under the banner "Enough is enough". Participants chanted "Rule Britannia" and demanded, in slogans, that the entry of irregular migrants be stopped.
Far-right extremists accuse authorities of concealing the truth about the origin of the suspected stabber in Southport. Misinformation had spread the rumor that he was an irregularly entered Muslim asylum seeker. However, police report that a 17-year-old, born in the UK, is under suspicion of murder. He allegedly stabbed three girls to death and injured eight other children and two adults, some seriously, on Monday.
In Southport, north of Liverpool, around 200 to 300 far-right extremists rioted and attacked the police after a peaceful vigil on Tuesday evening. This resulted in 53 officers being injured, 8 of them severely.
