Concerts in Germany - Radiohead-Guitarist Greenwood upset - The Smile says tour off
Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood (52) is seriously ill. Therefore, the Europe concerts of Radiohead side-project band The Smile in August have to be cancelled, including gigs in Frankfurt (20.8.) and Munich (21.8.).
"A few days ago, Jonny was seriously ill with an infection that required emergency hospital treatment, partly on the intensive care unit," the statement read on the official Instagram profile of Radiohead. A warning about Greenwood's health status was already given on Instagram: He is out of danger and will be back home soon. Other media reported on it earlier.
On the website of the official merchandise store of the band, the eight shows in Germany, Latvia, Poland, Austria, France, Spain, and Switzerland, which were scheduled from the 13th to the 28th of August, were marked as "cancelled". According to the Instagram post, all commitments were to be cancelled at the request of Jonny Greenwood's medical team until he had fully recovered.
The Smile is the side project of the British Radiohead musicians Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood. Jazz-drummer Tom Skinner (Sons of Kemet) also belongs to the band.
Data of the cancelled shows
The cancellation of The Smile's concerts in Frankfurt and Munich has been announced on Radiohead's official Instagram, due to guitarist Jonny Greenwood's health issues. Many people expressed their concerns after seeing the warning about Greenwood's condition on Instagram. Despite the unfortunate cancellation of their Europe tour, including stops in the United Kingdom, Germany (in Munich and Frankfurt), France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, and Poland, fans are hopeful that Jonny Greenwood will recover quickly and return to performing with Radiohead and The Smile.
