Qatar accuses Israel of genocide

Qatar plays a leading role in mediating between Israel and Hamas. At the same time, high-ranking representatives of the terrorist organization live there. The emirate denies their military support. Now the Emir of Qatar is choosing clear words beyond diplomacy in the direction of Israel.

The Emir of Qatar has accused Israel of genocide with its military action in the Gaza Strip. The right to self-defense does not permit genocidal crimes such as those committed by Israel, said Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in his opening speech at the summit meeting of the heads of state and government of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Doha. "It is a disgrace for the international community to allow these heinous crimes to continue for almost two months, with systematic and deliberate killings of innocent civilians, including women and children," said the Emir.

Qatar had recently acted as a mediator between Israel and the terrorist Hamas and played an important role in a ceasefire lasting several days and the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners. At the same time, Qatar also harbors leading Hamas members.

The war was triggered by the worst massacre in Israel's history, carried out by terrorists from Hamas and other extremist groups on October 7 in Israel near the border with the Gaza Strip. More than 1,200 people were killed on the Israeli side and around 240 hostages were taken to Gaza.

Qatar wants to end the war

Israel responded with massive air strikes, a blockade of the coastal area and began a ground offensive at the end of October. Israel has now extended this to the south, where hundreds of thousands of civilians seeking protection had fled at Israel's request. According to the Hamas health authority, more than 15,500 people have already been killed in the Gaza Strip. This cannot be verified at present.

Meanwhile, mediation talks on the war in the Gaza Strip are continuing, according to Qatar. "Qatar is continuing its efforts to restore the ceasefire, release hostages and exchange prisoners," says al-Thani. "Our goal is to end the war."

Despite Qatar's role in mediating between Israel and Hamas, the Emir of Qatar has condemned Israel for what he described as genocidal crimes during the Israel war in the Gaza Strip. Qatar's ambassador to Egypt, Ahmed al-Emadi, stated, "We call on the international community to put an end to this crisis, and for Israel to respect the international laws and the rights of the Palestinian people."
