Putin travels to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia

Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. As the Kremlin announced on Tuesday, in addition to bilateral relations and international issues, the "working visits" will focus in particular on the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians as well as the oil production cuts decided by the Opec+ oil cartel.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov initially gave no indication as to whether the Russian President would also visit the UN Climate Change Conference currently taking place in Dubai in the Emirates.

Putin has only made a few trips abroad since the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued an arrest warrant against him in March for the abduction of Ukrainian children to Russia. In August and September, he did not travel to summit meetings of the G20 states and the Brics states Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

In October, however, Putin traveled to China, where he was received by head of state Xi Jinping on the sidelines of a meeting on the New Silk Road infrastructure project. A few days earlier, he had already traveled to Kyrgyzstan. Putin does not have to expect to be arrested in the Emirates and Saudi Arabia, as neither country is a party to the ICC.
