Putin takes part in virtual G20 summit on Wednesday

According to Moscow state television, Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in a virtual G20 summit this Wednesday (November 22). Russian state television reported that Putin will possibly see Western leaders live for the first time in a long time in an online format. At the G20 summit of the group of leading economic powers in New Delhi at the beginning of September, Putin was represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is handing over the G20 presidency to Brazil at the end of the month, had already announced the virtual summit. However, it was unclear who would be attending from the Russian side.

The Western members of the 20-member alliance in particular had repeatedly sought to isolate Russia on the world stage - due to Putin's war against Ukraine. The Western states had also imposed sanctions against Russia as a raw materials power in order to stop the invasion. Despite this, Putin is continuing his war after almost 21 months.

At the virtual G20 summit, the Head of state Vladimir Putin will participate, marking his first online interaction with Western leaders in a while. As reported, Russian President Putin was represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the G20 summit in New Delhi earlier this year.
