Purdue issues recall for frozen chicken nuggets and tenders due to potential metal contamination concern

Pursuant to the discovery of potential metal contamination, Perdue Foods initiates a recall of over 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and strips.

Purdue issues recall for frozen chicken nuggets and tenders due to potential metal contamination concern

The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service declared on Friday that the recalled items were manufactured on March 23 and distributed to various retail stores nationwide or sold online. These products have a best-by date of March 23, 2025.

The affected products are:

  • 22-ounce containers of Perdue's Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets
  • 29-ounce packages of Perdue Chicken Breast Tenders
  • 22-ounce containers of Butcherbox Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets

Jeff Shaw, Perdue's senior vice president of food safety and quality, stated in a press release, "We discovered a thin wire strand of metal that accidentally entered the manufacturing process." As a precautionary measure, we decided to voluntarily recall all these packages of products."

If you have these items in your freezer, avoid using them. Discard them or return them to the point of purchase.

As of now, no confirmed cases of adverse reactions have been reported, according to the USDA. However, consumers with concerns about injuries or illnesses should seek medical attention.
