- Punk-Protestcamp 3.0 is celebrating halftime on Sylt
About three weeks after the start of the punk protest camp on Sylt, the approximately 170 residents have established a kind of mini-festival – with concerts, workshops, readings, and political actions. "We are very satisfied and have more people than last year, we are currently working on further actions – a CSD and an action in Kampen are planned," said Marvin Bederke, the organizer and spokesperson of the protest camp from Frankfurt, to the German Press Agency.
Under the motto "Protest Camp for a solidarity-based coexistence – climate justice and inclusive towards a shared future without gentrification," the participants from all over Germany, according to the group "Aktion Sylt," are criticizing capitalism.
Police: So far, everything is quiet at the Sylt camp
At the halfway point, the situation around the protest camp is predominantly peaceful, said Philipp Renoncourt, spokesperson for the police directorate in Flensburg. The cooperation and communication between the assembly authority and the organizer are running smoothly, said Laura Lewin, spokesperson for the Kreis Nordfriesland.
Some Sylt residents meet the Camp 3.0 and its residents with disapproval. "Basically, we as the Sylt community perceive a certain displeasure among parts of the population regarding the protest camp," said Florian Korte, spokesperson for the Sylt community, to the dpa. However, the overall approximately six-week action has so far been peaceful.
The protest camp on the holiday island is already in its third round. It all started on the North Sea island in the summer of 2022 with the nine-euro ticket. At that time, around 100 punks camped in tents in front of the town hall in Westerland. The third edition, outside the tourist center of the island, is significantly more professional.
The German Press Agency reported Marvin Bederke's satisfaction with the growth and future plans of the protest camp, including a CSD and an action in Kampen. The German Press Agency also reported Florian Korte's statement, expressing displeasure from some Sylt residents towards the protest camp, but acknowledging its peaceful course so far.
