Illegal financing - Public prosecutor's office investigates Marine Le Pen

The French Justice has launched investigations against the French right-wing populist Marine Le Pen regarding allegedly illegal financing of her 2022 presidential campaign. This includes a campaign loan and embezzlement of funds, the Prosecutor's Office announced in Paris on Tuesday. The investigations began on July 2 following a tip from the Electoral Campaign Finance Commission.

11.5 Million Euro did not bring Marine Le Pen a Victory

This Commission checks the campaign expenses of all candidates. Le Pen had invested around 11.5 million Euros in her third presidential campaign in 2022. The Commission had previously rejected some of her expenses, including over 300,000 Euros for campaign advertising on buses. Le Pen lost the presidential election in 2022 in the runoff against Emmanuel Macron.
