Second League - Prussia fans celebrate promotion: Fine from DFB

For the spontaneous celebrations during Preußen Münster's second league promotion, the football club received a fine of 11,360 Euro from the German Football Association (DFB). The football club is required to pay 8,000 Euro, primarily for the rush onto the field. Initially, the DFB had proposed a fine of 13,360 Euro, of which 10,000 Euro were solely for the rush onto the field. The club contested this decision.

"Labeling a peaceful rush onto the field in extraordinary moments like a promotion to the 2. Bundesliga as 'unsportsmanlike conduct' from the fans caused a clear discomfort for us," said Münster's commercial manager Markus Sass. Such emotions belonged to the sport and highlighted it. Moreover, the 2:0 win against SpVgg Unterhaching had proceeded smoothly.

"Our fans waited disciplined for the end of the game behind the advertising hoardings and then peacefully celebrated the promotion on the pitch," said Saas. However, the DFB argued that "unacceptable risks to life and limb" existed during a rush onto the field. In Münster, pyrotechnics had also been set off. The second division team agreed to the reduced penalty.

  1. Despite the reduced fine of 11,360 Euro for Preußen Münster's enthusiastic celebration after their second Bundesliga promotion, the German Football Association (DFB) deemed the rush onto the field as unsportsmanlike conduct.
  2. The German Football Association (DFB) initially proposed a higher fine of 13,360 Euro for Preußen Münster, with 10,000 Euro specifically for the rush onto the field during the promotion celebration.
  3. The city of Münster, renowned for its Münster Monastery and its rich history in northwestern Germany, saw its soccer team, Preußen Münster, ascend to the Second Bundesliga, causing a frenzy of celebrations.
  4. Following Preußen Münster's promotion to the Second Bundesliga, Riot police were called to control the unruly crowd, which had surged onto the field in jubilation, leading to the imposition of a fine by the German Football Association (DFB).
  5. The German Football Association (DFB) reminded Preußen Münster that the risk to life and limb during a rush onto the field is unacceptable, and cited the use of pyrotechnics at the North Rhine-Westphalia stadium as evidence.
  6. Despite disagreement with the German Football Association's (DFB) labeling of their supporter's actions as 'unsportsmanlike conduct', Preußen Münster agreed to pay the reduced fine of 8,000 Euro for the chaos that ensued during their historic ascent to the Second Bundesliga.
