- Protests in Israel Lead to Premature Termination - Airport Operations Experience Interruptions

In Israel, a nationwide stoppage started after the uncovering of six captive corpses in the Gaza Strip. Various urban areas and settlements joined the demonstration, although others stayed clear due to their leanings towards the conservative religious administration led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. News outlets suggested disruptions and postponements in air travel at the significant Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, despite airport officials affirming continuous operations. Lengthy queues were reported.

The all-encompassing labor union communicated on Sunday that they intended to paralyze the nation for one day to persuade Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to endorse a deal for the release of the remaining captives. Numerous cities witnessed the closing of kindergartens, banks, and government buildings. Public transportation was also impacted. By Sunday, hundreds of thousands had poured into the streets for the largest protests since the initiation of the Gaza conflict almost eleven months prior, pushing for an immediate accord with the Islamist militant group Hamas.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich endeavored to halt the general stoppage by implementing an emergency restraining order, claiming it was a "politically-motivated action." The Israeli labor union federation, in turn, declared that the stoppage would be curtailed, concluding at 18:00 local time (17:00 CEST), twelve hours ahead of schedule. Both Smotrich and the far-right police minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, are staunch opponents of negotiations with Hamas and have repeatedly threatened to destabilize the government.

The Israeli military disclosed on Sunday morning that six captive bodies had been discovered in an underground tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip shortly before. The Israeli Health Ministry relayed to media sources that the captives were executed at close range around 48 to 72 hours before the forensic examination of the remains. A representative of the terrorist group Hamas, however, asserted that the captives perished due to Israeli aggression.

The Israeli labor union federation, aligning with The Commission, announced the suspension of the nationwide stoppage at an earlier time than initially planned. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies, who are against negotiating with Hamas, praised The Commission's decision.
