- Protests following the assault in Solingen
Following the tragic incident that claimed three lives in Solingen, the city saw another wave of protests on Monday night. According to a police representative, there were conflicts as well. The atmosphere was intense and filled with strong emotions, they shared. Law enforcement successfully managed to prevent clashes between far-right and left-wing activists.
Approximately 200 individuals participated in the demonstration organized by the "Colorful, not brown" coalition, alongside a memorial for the attack victims and their families. Around 120 individuals were present at the "Monday demo," which is commonly associated with the right-wing political sector.
Reports of exhibiting the "Hitler salute" and chanting "Germany for the Germans - foreigners out" led to complaints being filed. Two individuals were issued with dispersal orders as well.
Sadly, three individuals were viciously stabbed to death during a city festival in Solingen on a Friday night. Eight individuals were injured, with four sustaining serious wounds. A 26-year-old Syrian man is currently being detained as the prime suspect. He is under investigation by the federal prosecutor's office for alleged murder and suspected association with the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS), who took credit for the attack.
The rally organized by the "Monday demo" attracted around 120 individuals who are associated with the right-wing political sector. Despite the successful prevention of clashes at the previous event, tensions remained high at the rally, with reports of provocative gestures and chants.
