Following the deadly shots at Frankfurt's primary station, the suspect initially remained silent on the accusations. This was mentioned by Dominik Mies, the spokesperson for Frankfurt's Public Prosecutor's Office. The 54-year-old is suspected of having fatally shot a 27-year-old with headshots on Tuesday evening. All pieces of evidence are being examined, witnesses are being questioned, and all relevant information is being examined.

The alleged culprit was apprehended by the Federal Police shortly after the incident. A warrant was issued against him on suspicion of homicide. The victim perished at the scene. On Thursday, the Public Prosecutor's Office also refused to comment on the connection between the two Turkish nationals.

Suspected CCTV footage of the incident

In the meantime, questionable footage from surveillance cameras is widely circulating online. It shows a man approaching another man from behind, pointing a pistol at the back of his head, and the man collapsing shortly afterwards. "Naturally, we have taken notice of this," said Mies. However, he refused to comment on it.

According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly shot the 27-year-old twice more in the head while he was on the ground. It was reported that federal police officers prevented the man from boarding a train and escaping.

Criminal psychologist: Perpetrator appears to have accepted being caught

A heinous crime like this in the heart of a bustling main station: "That has something dramatic, perhaps even staged about it," says criminal psychologist Wilhelm Schmidt. "Someone who commits such a crime in public clearly takes on a massive risk of being caught," says the former long-time director of the Criminal Central Office in Wiesbaden. The perpetrator must have been aware that surveillance cameras would record the crime and that there would be countless witnesses. He must have expected that he would not evade capture, which could result in a life sentence.

"If someone does something like this, they must have a very compelling reason or be under extreme pressure," says Schmidt. Perhaps there was no other way to commit the crime. Currently, one can only speculate about potential motives.

Since June 1, 2021, there has been a ban on carrying weapons at Frankfurt Central Station after dark. Since then, it has not been permitted to carry weapons, as well as knives with a fixed or folding blade longer than four centimeters, in the station building between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM.

The suspect in question is originally from Hessen, as revealed during the investigation. In an attempt to understand the motives behind this heinous act, psychologists are analyzing the background and upbringing of the individual, who hails from Hessen.
