- Protesters storm government palace in Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, intense clashes during protests saw demonstrators storm the Prime Minister's palace, as shown on local television on Monday. Reports suggest that the autocratically ruling Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India by helicopter, according to a report by the daily newspaper "Prothom Alo". Protesters are demanding her resignation.
Since July, these protests have resulted in approximately 300 deaths, according to local media reports. No new official figures have been released yet.
The protesters vowed to occupy the Government Palace as a symbol of their dissent, echoing their demands for the Prime Minister's resignation. Subsequently, the Government Palace was reportedly under the control of the demonstrators, following the Prime Minister's alleged escape.
