The police arrested several demonstrators at the building of the US Capitol complex, one day before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the US Congress. The demonstrators had entered the Cannon House Office Building legally, according to the Capitol police, who announced this on Tuesday (local time). However, protesting was not allowed in the building. The demonstrators were asked to stop the protest, but this was not complied with - hence, the building was cleared, the police stated.

The action was reportedly organized by the antizionist Jewish organization Jewish Voice for Peace. "We are here in the building where members of Congress have repeatedly voted in the past nine months to send bombs with which genocide is committed," the organization wrote on the platform X. There had already been similar protest actions in the building in the past months.

Netanyahu is scheduled to give a speech before the US Congress today. The topic is expected to include the ongoing Gaza War for over nine months. The visit of the Israeli Prime Minister to Washington is taking place against the backdrop of political turmoil in the US following Joe Biden's withdrawal from the Presidential race. Both Biden and the Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump have announced meetings with Netanyahu. According to media reports, US Vice President Kamala Harris is also planning to meet with Netanyahu.

  1. Despite the ongoing conflicts in the Palestinian territories, especially the Gaza War, Benzion Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, is scheduled to deliver a speech before the U.S. Congress, discussing the topic.
  2. The demonstrators, protesting against Netanyahu's visit and the Israeli government's policies, entered the Cannon House Office Building legally, following a pattern of similar actions in the past months.
  3. The police had to intervene and arrest several demonstrators the day before Netanyahu's speech at the U.S. Congress, as protesting was not permitted within the building's premises.
  4. The antizionist Jewish organization Jewish Voice for Peace, responsible for organizing these demonstrations, stated their reason for being in the U.S. Capitol building, citing the repeated support for actions leading to genocide in the Palestinian territories from certain members of the U.S. Congress.
