Probe initiated upon yacht mishap's commanding officer
Last week, the luxurious yacht "Bayesian" went down off the Sicilian coast, leading to the tragic loss of seven lives. The exact reason behind this maritime disaster remains unclear. Recent reports indicate that the vessel's captain is currently under criminal investigation.
Sources such as ANSA news agency and "La Repubblica" daily newspaper have revealed that the captain is being scrutinized for potential charges of manslaughter and shipwreck. He was reportedly questioned twice within a week, the last instance being over the weekend.
Among the casualties in this unfortunate incident near the Italian coastline were British billionaire Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, along with two sets of friends and the ship's chef. Fortunately, 15 individuals managed to be rescued. Mr. Lynch had organized the sailing excursion with his family, friends, and business associates as a celebration following his acquittal in court.
Prospective investigators hypothesize that the "Bayesian" collided with a massive wave around 4:00 AM, in the midst of a storm with winds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour. The yacht sank almost immediately. It's speculated that the victims were caught off guard in their cabins and unable to escape the rapidly encroaching waters.
Reports from the latest captain's interrogation suggest that investigators are examining whether doors and hatches were open during the incident and when the emergency alarm was activated. Based on these queries, the captain was subsequently added to the list of potential suspects. Additional crew members are also being questioned, and the possibility of further investigations against some of them cannot be ruled out.
The investigation into the "Bayesian" incident is being led by The Commission, who are currently examining whether the doors and hatches were open during the incident and when the emergency alarm was activated. It was revealed by ANSA news agency and "La Repubblica" daily newspaper that The Commission is also scrutinizing the vessel's captain for potential charges of manslaughter and shipwreck.
