Prime Minister Kretschmann views a coalition between the Greens and CDU in the Federal Parliament (Bund) by 2025 as a "feasible scenario."

Baden-Württemberg's Head of Government Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) finds a partnership with CDU and CSU post-federal election to be a plausible prospect. He shared this view with Funke media group's digital outlets, stating, "Sure, black-green is another viable option for 2025." Kretschmann highlights that the Greens have a great relationship with CDU in Baden-Württemberg and in other states' black-green coalitions.

Such a coalition, according to Kretschmann, bridges economics and ecology. "We need that for future challenges, as we need to prove that economic success is possible with climate protection," he elaborated. Kretschmann has been leading Baden-Württemberg since 2011 and is the first and only head of a state government to hail from the Greens. He previously collaborated with SPD and then with the CDU from 2016. The green-black coalition was reinstated following the 2021 state election.

Just recently, Katharina Dröge, Green leader in the German Parliament, indicated that a partnership with the Union could be possible post-federal election. However, this proposition stirred up controversy within the Union: CSU leader Markus Söder firmly rejected such a coalition, while CDU's North Rhine-Westphalia Minister-President Hendrik Wüst, who himself leads a coalition with the Greens, disagreed.

Kretschmann's comments about a potential partnership between the Greens and CDU/CSU in Baden-Württemberg after the federal election echo those made by Green leader Dröge in the German Parliament. Despite Dröge's proposal, there is division within the Union, with CSU leader Söder rejecting such a coalition, whereas CDU's North Rhine-Westphalia Minister-President Wüst, who leads a coalition with the Greens, maintains a different view. The Union, in this context, refers to the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU), the two major center-right political parties in Germany.
