CDU Federal Vice President - Prien on the Pisa debacle: "Urgent need for action
In view of the disastrous PISA results, CDU Federal Vice-President and Schleswig-Holstein's Education Minister Karin Prien sees an "urgent need for action". The result is in line with the results of recent national studies, Prien said on "Deutschlandfunk" radio on Wednesday. It was therefore not surprising. "But that doesn't make it any better. It is a miserable result and this must not only be analyzed soberly, but must also have consequences."
The results of the Pisa study were published on Tuesday. In reading as well as in mathematics and science, the results were the lowest ever measured for Germany within the framework of Pisa. This was announced by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
It is important to focus more on basic skills and to promote these, including at nursery school, said Prien. "The key to greater educational success lies in nursery. And we need to do more there."
The state government in Schleswig-Holstein has also agreed on this. "We have agreed on several things." Among other things, according to Prien, special language support is to be introduced in the area around the perspective schools for the next school year. Perspective schools in Schleswig-Holstein are schools with a particularly difficult social environment for which there is a special support program.
Topic of better teacher training
OnDeutschlandfunk radio, Prien also expressed her conviction that screening in nurseries is needed at all school locations. "And I won't let up on that either."
In addition, the link between background and educational success must be reduced through early intervention and math lessons must be improved. The issue of better teacher training also needs to be addressed.
Prior to the publication of the results, Prien had already emphasized that Germany must move from a welfare state to a social education state. Education must be prioritized across all age groups in the budgets of the federal and state governments.
