Previous workers suing Elon Musk's SpaceX for alleged unlawful dismissals following claims of gender bias and harassment.
A group of eight workers who were terminated in 2022 have filed a lawsuit against space entrepreneur Elon Musk, accusing him of creating a sexist work environment at his company, SpaceX. According to the complaint filed in a California state court, Musk wants to be "the leader to a brave new world of space travel," but in reality, he runs the company like it's stuck in the dark ages, where women are treated as "sexual objects" and evaluated based on their bra size. The lawsuit also claims that Musk indulges in lewd sexual banter in the workplace and retaliates against those who attempt to challenge this "Animal House" atmosphere, telling them they can leave if they don't like it.
These eight employees were part of a group that wrote an open letter in 2022, urging SpaceX's top executives to improve the company's culture and make it more inclusive. The letter was reportedly signed by over 400 other employees, who were critical of Musk's controversial statements on social media and felt that SpaceX's "No Asshole" policy was being inconsistently enforced.
After the release of the letter, the eight employees were fired. The lawsuit alleges that Musk personally ordered their dismissal.
SpaceX has yet to respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit. It's worth noting that the company typically doesn't respond to inquiries from news organizations. In response to the open letter, the company's chief operating officer, Gwynne Shotwell, said she would strictly enforce SpaceX's zero-tolerance policy against employee harassment.
This story is still developing, and we will update it as new information becomes available.
