New Prime Minister - President of the state parliament: Dreyer's brand essence is great empathy

The Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament President Hendrik Hering highlighted the neighborly and rooted qualities of Minister President Malu Dreyer (both SPD) during her farewell speech in the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament in Mainz. In the parliament and with the people, she always focused on eye-level encounters, Hering stated in the parliament.

Not only in small matters in Rhineland-Palatinate, but also on the large stage and during her tenure as President of the Bundesrat, Dreyer made a name for herself. She was counted among the most well-known Minister Presidents and Minister Presidents in Germany. "All these big stages could Malu Dreyer easily handle, and yet she did not strive for federal politics: because her homeland Rhineland-Palatinate was always more important – more important," Hering emphasized.

"'Malu' – as many call her – was a neighborly Minister President, and the citizens respected that in her," the State Parliament President pointed out. The people appreciated her sincere and sympathetic nature, her clear stance, and her natural authority. "It is almost her trademark to devote herself to issues and people with full force and great empathy."

The 63-year-old is retiring from politics after eleven years as head of government. Her successor will be the former Labor and Social Minister Alexander Schweitzer (SPD) in the State Parliament.

  5. Hendrik Hering concluded by noting that Malu Dreyer's successor, Alexander Schweitzer, who will assume the role of Minister President in the State Parliament, will have big shoes to fill, given the strong reputation Dreyer built through her years of dedicated service to the people of Rhineland-Palatinate.
