Polls show Harris ahead of Trump - and not
Who will win the US election? Many polls have Kamala Harris slightly ahead of Donald Trump, but this doesn't necessarily mean much due to the complex electoral system. Another survey focused on character traits, with Harris also having a slight edge.
Vice President Kamala Harris is seen by Americans as having an advantage over Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in some leadership qualities, according to a new poll. While US citizens see Harris as more honest than her rival in the November election, they are slightly more inclined to trust Trump in areas of the economy and immigration.
Nearly half of those surveyed by the news agency AP and the research center Norc said that qualities like "committed to democracy" and "disciplined" described Harris more than Trump. Only about three in ten said these attributes better fit Trump.
About four in ten respondents said Harris cares about "people like me," while about three in ten said the same for Trump. About four in ten said the word "honest" describes Harris better, with 24 percent seeing Trump ahead in this area.
Four in ten respondents saw Trump as a strong leader, with a similar proportion saying the same for Harris. Similarly, about four in ten said Trump was better able to handle a crisis, with a similar proportion saying the same for Harris.
No clear winner in election question
When it comes to who has the better chance of winning in November, Harris and Trump are tied. In July, before incumbent Joe Biden withdrew his presidential candidacy, only two in ten Americans thought the 81-year-old had better chances than Trump. Four in ten saw Trump ahead at the time.
Regarding the economy and immigration, respondents saw slight advantages for Trump. 45 percent said Trump was better able to handle the economy, with 38 percent saying the same for Harris. The ratio is similar for immigration.
Americans see Harris ahead when it comes to issues of ethnic inequality, abortion policy, or healthcare. About half of respondents said Harris would do a better job in these areas, with only three in ten saying the same for Trump.
I'm not going to make a prediction about the election based on these polls, as the electoral system is complex and other factors come into play. Regardless of the poll results, I believe it's important for both candidates to focus on addressing the issues that matter most to the American people.
