Polls: Le Pen will miss out on absolute majority
When the French attend the second round of the parliamentary elections on Sunday, a political earthquake may be avoided. In the latest surveys, the right-wing Rassemblement National (RN) of Marine Le Pen is leading, but they may not be able to secure an absolute majority.
The latest surveys show that the new left-wing alliance formed for the parliamentary elections, consisting of Greens, Socialists, Communists, and the Left Party, is confirmed in second place. According to Ifop, this new popular front is projected to win between 170 and 200 seats. Opinionway estimates that they will win between 150 and 180 seats.
The centrist camp of President Emmanuel Macron is predicted to suffer a humiliating defeat and ranks third, according to the polling institutes. Ifop forecasts 95 to 125 seats, while Opinionway predicts 125 to 155 seats. The conservative Republicans are also expected to lose ground. The party, which was already divided in the run-up to the election, saw its leader Éric Ciotti reach an agreement with the RN. However, only a few Republican deputies joined forces with them. According to Ifop, the moderate Republicans are projected to win between 25 and 45 seats, while Opinionway sees them winning between 38 and 50 seats.
A survey by the Harris Interactive Institute, published on a Wednesday, predicted that the Rassemblement National would win between 190 and 220 seats, the left-wing alliance between 159 and 183 seats, and Macron's presidential camp between 110 and 135 seats.
France's Prime Minister Macron surprisingly dissolved the National Assembly and announced new elections after the disappointing performance of his center forces and the high victory of the Right Nationalists in the European elections. Macron's own position is not at stake in this matter.
Despite France's Prime Minister Macron dissolving the National Assembly and calling for new elections due to the Right Nationalist's victory in the European elections, the Rassemblement National, led by Marine Le Pen, might still struggle to secure a majority in the upcoming parliamentary elections, as per various polling institutes. Emmanuel Macron, despite facing a potential humiliation in politics, is predicted to secure a smaller number of seats compared to the Rassemblement National and the left-wing alliance in these elections.
