Police union calls for enhanced and unified rates of remuneration across the country.
Following a tragedy where a cop was killed in Mannheim, the Police Union (GdP) has once again pressed for enhanced and consistent remuneration for work injuries. The head of the federal department, Jochen Kopelke, voiced his discontent on Tuesday: "We disagree with the guidelines for payouts to family members."
The figures differ depending on the region, ranging between 60,000 and 120,000 euros. "We're asking for a nationwide increase to 300,000 euros." Kopelke claimed, as quoted by "Mannheimer Morgen": "The financial support for family members of the deceased is lower in Baden-Württemberg than in the national police force or in Bavaria."
The GdP had voiced this demand after the police killings in Kusel that took place at the end of January 2022. "As violence against law enforcement officers intensifies, the likelihood of severe injuries, permanent impairments, or even fatalities escalates."
The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior responded: "Payment of upkeep for spouses, children, parents, and grandparents is doable." The Baden-Württemberg Civil Servants' Pension Plan also governs the provision of a one-time accident payment of up to 60,000 euros. Moreover, they'll cover the expenditures associated with the funeral from state funds.
