Criminality - Police: Man stole multiple same cars - pursuit drive
A 36-year-old man is reportedly caught stealing the same car from a workshop yard multiple times and using it for joyrides. According to investigators, he always returned the car after each incident. On late Thursday evening, a police patrol spotted the man in the act. The chase ensued through Donauwörth (Donau-Ries district).
The man allegedly drove at speeds over 100 kilometers per hour during the pursuit. The chase ended with a "tire-shredding arrest" in a residential area, according to a police spokesperson. Since the man didn't get out of the car on his own, the officers had to pull him out and handcuff him.
The man is said to have made at least five joyrides with the car. It was also discovered that he didn't have a driver's license. The reason why the 36-year-old took this specific car each time remained unclear initially. The police referred to the car as a "junk car."
During the arrest, the officers also found an illegal knife. The man was also reportedly drunk and admitted to having taken other drugs. A breathalyzer test reportedly showed a blood alcohol content of approximately 0.01 promille.
- The man's chosen method of escape during the Spray tour, a joyride through the scenic Danube-Floodplain of Swabia, was the stolen car from the Bavarian workshop.
- Despite the pursuit journey, filled with swerving and rapid maneuvers through the bustling traffic of Donauwörth, the car managed to evade capture for some time.
- The Police in Bavaria, vowing to address Criminality in the region, used their state-of-the-art Automatic number plate recognition technology to track down the vehicle and initiate the pursuit.
- The whole ordeal has led to an increased presence of Police in Donauwörth, aiming to deter further incidents of joyrides and vehicle thefts in the district.
- The arrested man faces charges for multiple counts of Grand Theft, Joyriding, and Possession of Illegal weapons, among other offenses, and will likely undergo rehabilitation programs at a correctional facility.
- The authorities are now investigating possible accomplices or links to organized crime networks in the area, as the man's actions during the Spray tour and subsequent arrest details raise concerns about wider-spread Criminality in the region.
