Gaza War - Police dispersed a pro-Palestinian demonstration - eight injured
At the resolution of a large pro-Palestinian demo in Berlin, eight people were injured. The Berlin Fire Department told the German Press Agency that among them was a severely injured person. The police dispersed the demo in the evening. Prior to that, repeatedly legally relevant calls could be heard, the police stated in response to an inquiry.
The demonstration started in the afternoon in Steglitz and headed towards Innsbrucker Platz. According to the police, around 600 people were present in the afternoon.
According to the Fire Department, five injured persons were taken to hospitals. All injured persons had reported themselves to the emergency services after the end of the demo. They had mostly circulation problems and minor wounds. Teargas was not used, a Fire Department spokesperson stated.
Apart from numerous Palestinian flags, the people at the demo held signs with the inscription "Free Palestine from Israel's Occupation" aloft. The demonstration was registered under the title "Stop the Gaza Genocide".
Since the terrorist attack by the Islamist Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, there have been weekly demonstrations in Berlin in the context of the Gaza War.
The demonstration in Schöneberg, a known district in Berlin, was a continuation of the ongoing conflicts surrounding the Palestinian territories. The demonstration in Berlin, similar to those in Steglitz, has been a weekly event since the Gaza War. Despite the dispersal of the demo by the police, the demonstrators had not retaliated with violence. The Palestinian flag was prominently displayed, symbolizing their stance on the ongoing issues in Gaza and Israeli occupation. Regardless of the injuries reported, there were no reports of the Gaza conflict escalating within Berlin or Germany.
