Police catch suspect after alleged murder

Shortly after midnight, a call comes in to the police in the small town of Weingarten in the Kreis Karlsruhe. The discovery of a deceased person in a residence then triggers a large-scale police operation. Hours later, they manage to apprehend a suspect.

In Weingarten, in the district of Karlsruhe, a woman is believed to have fallen victim to a homicide. In the morning, officers in the 10,000-inhabitant community took a suspect into custody, as police and the prosecutor's office announced. He is expected to be brought before a judge on Wednesday, according to a police spokesperson.

Police found the 52-year-old woman in a residence in Weingarten during the night on Tuesday. Someone from the vicinity of the house had heard the alarm call shortly after midnight, according to a police spokesperson. The police began an intensive search in the night, with a police helicopter also in use.

Victim and suspect knew each other

The suspect is a 25-year-old man from Montenegro. It was relatively clear that the victim and the accused knew each other personally, according to a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office. The suspect was reportedly arrested in the vicinity of the residence. He had apparently hidden himself in some kind of shed, the police spokesperson added. The allegedly murdered woman was older than the suspect, the police spokesperson said.

The police did not provide further details about the woman's identity at first. Nor did they reveal the exact nature of the relationship between the suspect and the woman, or the possible cause of death and motive for the crime.

The investigation into the murder and manslaughter case in Weingarten, Baden-Württemberg, is being handled by the Karlsruhe police due to its international implications, as the suspect is a foreign national. The 25-year-old Montenegrin suspect is expected to face charges in a German court.
