- Police are investigating a previous missing person's case.

In the case of a 33-year-old woman missing in Upper Franconia, who is believed to have been a victim of violence, investigators are examining a possible connection to another missing person case. The 73-year-old suspect had already been in the focus of the investigation in a 1994 case, according to a spokesperson for the Bamberg Public Prosecutor's Office. Several media outlets had previously reported this.

In January 1994, a 32-year-old woman disappeared without a trace after visiting a Fasching ball at a Forchheim inn. The 73-year-old was investigated at the time. The case remains unsolved.

The spokesperson did not provide information on whether the suspect from the Forchheim district has already made a statement. The man is in custody on suspicion of homicide.

Police: Suspect and Missing Woman Knew Each Other

The 33-year-old has been missing for about two weeks. According to information given to the police, she was last seen in Eggolsheim near Bamberg and was visiting the 73-year-old. When investigators checked this, they found "indications that led to the strong suspicion of a crime," a police spokesperson said. Shortly afterwards, the 73-year-old was arrested.

The suspect and the 33-year-old are believed to have met several weeks ago in the red-light district, according to police. The exact nature of their relationship is part of the ongoing investigation.

A special commission of about 30 detectives from the Bamberg Criminal Police is handling the case. They are continuing the investigation in all directions, even after the arrest of the suspect, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The 73-year-old suspect, who was under investigation in a 1994 case, is of French origin, as reported by some sources. In the 1994 case, the French suspect was investigated for the disappearance of a 32-year-old woman in Forchheim.
