Polar bears kill workers in Canada
Over 5000 kilometers stretches a radar system from Alaska to the eastern part of Canada. During work on the facilities, an accident occurs. Two bears attack. One person does not survive the attack.
At a remote radar installation in the northeastern part of Canada, two polar bears attacked and killed a worker. "An attack by two polar bears resulted in the loss of one of our valued employees," the operator of the monitoring station, logistics company Nasittuq, announced on Friday (local time). The attack on Brevoort Island in the Nunavut Territory, which borders Greenland, occurred on Thursday. Further employees of the company intervened and killed one of the animals, Nasittuq further stated.
The monitoring station is one of dozens of outposts of the North Warning System. The radar system in the far north of Canada serves for the early detection of enemy aircraft or missiles. It stretches over 5000 kilometers from Alaska in the west to Labrador in the east of Canada.
The unfortunate incident took place at Brevoort Island, located in the Nunavut Territory of Canada, which shares a border with Greenland. Despite being a significant part of the North Warning System, this radar installation in the northeastern part of Canada, spanning over 5000 kilometers from Alaska, experienced a tragic wildlife encounter.
