Consequences of war - Planned bomb detonation in Saalekreis - Evacuation
After the discovery of another bomb in the Saalekreis, evacuation measures are being prepared in Krumpa. Starting at 9.00 AM, response teams will be present in the exclusion zone, and residents must leave the exclusion radius by 11:30 AM, according to a spokesperson for the district. The 500 kilogram bomb from World War II needs to be detonated on site. There are approximately 300 households within a kilometer of the discovery site, housing around 600 people.
A bomb was also defused nearby on a Wednesday. Residents were informed about the discoveries through handouts.
According to the authorities, a kindergarten will remain closed on Friday. Residents are expected to be able to return around 4:00 PM. A sports hall is to be opened as a temporary shelter. In addition, Deutsche Bahn will no longer stop at the Krumpa train station from the morning, and the Merseburg-Querfurt (PNVG) transportation company will not serve stations within the exclusion radius.
The recently discovered bomb, according to reports, cannot be defused due to the fuse. The mine was found on a field where a photovoltaic plant was to be built. Before construction begins on the large area, extensive searches for munitions are carried out - with successful results in the past.
