Defense Minister at the Federal Level - Pistorius Unable to Provide Ukraine with Patriot Systems

Boris Pistorius, Germany's Defense Minister, urged NATO partners to support Ukraine with Patriot missile defense systems. If Germany can offer three, representing a quarter of its total capacity, Pistorius believes other countries will also contribute one. He stated Germany cannot provide more than three systems.

Pistorius emphasized to other NATO countries that it doesn't have to be Patriot systems; any system would aid in protecting and defending Ukrainian airspace and security. The Patriot missile defense system is highly advanced, capable of engaging enemy aircraft, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles.

In Brussels, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg discussed plans to increase air defense support for Ukraine, with systems to be delivered promptly. Stoltenberg expects NATO allies to announce their contributions in the upcoming days and weeks.

For months, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has argued for an additional seven Patriot systems to safeguard Ukrainian cities and major population centers. Germany has already supplied Ukraine with two Patriot systems and accompanying missiles. They have also pledged a third unit, which is currently being trained for Ukrainian soldiers and expected to be delivered imminently.
