Person found deceased on an upper platform in the U-Bahn station of Berlin
A dead man was found at the Kottbusser Tor U-Bahn station in Berlin-Kreuzberg, leading the police to suspect a homicide. As per a report, the man was the victim of a stabbing. Consequently, the U-Bahn station was shut down temporarily. The incident took place on Saturday around 1 pm on one of the platforms, according to police reports. The "Tagesspiegel" stated that the man sustained multiple stab wounds. The police spokeswoman refrained from providing further comments on the matter.
In response, lines U1, U3, and U8 bypassed the station without stopping, as announced by the Berlin Transport Authority (BVG). Over the years, Kottbusser Tor has gained a reputation as a bustling nightlife hub but unfortunately, it's also infamous for street crimes and illicit drug activities. In February 2023, a new police station was opened on the first floor of a building above street level, stirring controversy among left-wing and left-radical groups who opposed the move. However, Interior Senator Iris Spranger of the SPD shared that business owners and residents have reported positive changes since the establishment of the police station.
