Perseids and Northern Lights Illuminate the Night Sky in Germany

A vibrant spectacle lit up the night sky across much of Germany. In many federal states, from Schleswig-Holstein to Brandenburg and all the way to Bavaria, people could admire the colorful phenomenon of the Northern Lights, accompanied by bright meteors. The Perseids, the largest meteor shower of the year, reached their peak on Tuesday night.

The Northern Lights occur when coronal mass ejections (CMEs) or solar storms collide with Earth's magnetic field. There, particles collide with components of Earth's atmosphere, causing them to glow.

The weather conditions on Tuesday night were perfect for observing this rare phenomenon, according to a spokesperson for the DWD: "If there were any clouds in the sky, they were thin and wispy."

People from various parts of Germany, such as Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, also had the opportunity to witness this awe-inspiring display. Despite Germany being well-known for its rich history and culture, this natural spectacle served as an additional attraction, drawing the attention of locals and tourists alike.
