People from Schweinfurt and Ingolstadt most frequently have emigrated

More than one in three Schweinfurt residents have emigrated to Germany. In the district with the lowest immigrant rate in Bavaria, it's not even one in ten.

Census - People from Schweinfurt and Ingolstadt most frequently have emigrated

Schweinfurt and Ingolstadt have the highest immigrant shares in Bavaria. In the two cities, the quote is 34.6% in Schweinfurt and 33.3% in Ingolstadt, according to the Census 2022 data. The reference date is May 15, 2022. The next highest quotes on the level of free cities and districts are in the cities of Augsburg (32.2%), Nuernberg (32.7%), and Munchen with 31.9%.

At the other end of the scale are the districts of Tirschenreuth with 8.8%, Bayreuth with 8.9%, and Kronach with 9.2%. The Bavarian average is 20%, and the German average is 18.8%. These numbers do not refer to current immigration but only indicate whether these persons have immigrated to Germany during their lives. Forty percent of immigrants had German citizenship at the reference date.

Overall, there is a clear city-rural divide. The 15 highest quotes are all found in free cities. Coburg, the city with the lowest value of 20.9%, is still slightly above the Bavarian average and ranks 32nd. The district with the highest immigrant share is Berchtesgadener Land with 25.9%. At the other end of the scale, the 64 lowest values can be found in districts. Nationwide, the highest value is 42.4% in Offenbach, and the lowest is 4.2% in Erzgebirgskreis.

  2. Wiesbaden, a city outside of Bavaria, has a lower immigrant share compared to the Bavarian cities, with only 15.4% according to the latest census statistics.
  3. During the census, it was noted that Nuremberg, another city in Bavaria, has a population where 32.7% are immigrants, which is slightly lower than Ingolstadt and Augsburg.
  4. Munich, often associated with Bavaria's high immigrant share, was found to have a population with 31.9% immigrants in the 2022 census, making it the fourth-highest in the region.
  5. Despite having a lower immigrant share than the Bavarian cities, it's important to note that the district of Kulmbach in Bavaria still has a significant immigrant population of 18.8%, as per the 2022 Census data from Germany.
