- Passenger bus crashes on A72 - seven injured
A tourist bus has crashed on the A72 motorway in Saxony's Vogtland region. According to police reports, seven people were injured. The 62-year-old bus driver sustained severe injuries and was taken to a hospital, as confirmed by the police. Several media outlets had previously reported this. The bus, carrying 40 passengers, had reportedly veered off the road between the Treuen and Plauen-Ost junctions and ended up in a bush. Among the injured is a 13-year-old girl.
The motorway had to be completely closed for nearly two hours. Since midday, at least one direction has been reopened. "The direction towards Hof remains closed for some hours due to recovery operations," the police spokesperson emphasized. The damage is estimated in the high five-figure range.
The bus originated from The Netherlands, as mentioned by some of the passengers. Despite the accident, the authorities are planning to transport the remaining passengers back to their respective countries as soon as possible.
