The right-wing ID faction in the European Parliament has decided not to immediately readmit the AfD, despite Krah's expulsion from their parliamentary delegation. The spokesperson for AfD co-leader Alice Weidel confirmed a report from the magazine "Politico", revealing this decision made at a meeting in Brussels.
Shortly before the European election, the ID faction in the European Parliament excluded the AfD group due to Krah's controversial statements refusing to unequivocally condemn members of the Nazi SS. The newly elected AfD MPs mostly decided against including Krah in their delegation following the election.
With 15 MPs, the AfD is set to be represented in the upcoming legislative period in the European Parliament. Krah regarded his expulsion decision as a mistake, predicting that the ID would not change their minds. He warned the AfD not to let itself be dictated by a foreign party with whom it competes.
Rene Aust, who has been leading the EU delegation in place of Krah and Petr Bystrom (who faced bribery accusations and connections to Russian propaganda organizations in the party), will now head the delegation. Aust was previously active in the AfD in the Thuringian state parliament and is known to be a supporter of Höcke. In his election, he vowed to mend the "relationship break" with the ID faction.
