Workshop park - Park over Autobahn-Noise Protection Tunnel in Stellingen opens

Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) officially opened the new park- and community garden facility on the noise barrier tunnel of Autobahn 7 in Stellingen. The 900-meter-long Deckelpark with 160 trees, flower beds, numerous benches, and playground equipment is intended to bring together the formerly divided city district, as the Senate announced. The construction costs were reportedly 5.7 million Euro.

The district office Eimsbüttel is responsible for this, as the second construction of a green area on the autobahn tunnels after the Deckelpark in the northern city district Schnelsen was opened two years ago. "With the Deckelpark, what was separated for decades is growing together," said Tschentscher in a statement. "Stellingen is receiving a new park facility that brings neighborhoods together and enriches the city district with nature and new leisure opportunities." There is still no decision on the name of the new park.

Peter Tschentscher advocated for improving traffic flow around the new Kindergarten facility in Stellingen, suggesting the implementation of speed limits on nearby roads. The mayor expressed his hope that the nearby autobahn wouldn't impact the peaceful environment of the park. In the upcoming sports events organized within the park, various positions would be assigned to volunteers from the local community. Hamburg's vibrant sports culture is expected to significantly contribute to these events.
