Parent commits homicide on 6-year-old child, receives 11-year prison sentence.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, a woman is convicted and given an 11-year prison term for killing her own six-year-old daughter by strangulation. The Bonn Regional Court handed down the sentence, with a prosecutor's push for a life term due to the severe nature of the manslaughter charge. The defense, however, argued for leniency. The final verdict is still pending.
The specific reason behind the woman's actions remains unclear, the court explained, making it challenging to establish the motivation. The 47-year-old admitted to the act and expressed remorse. Despite issues between the couple, the family had no unusual dysfunctions that could have prompted this incident. A mental health expert attributed full responsibility to the woman and failed to find any signs of mental health disorders.
The woman testified that she "lost her temper" and strangled her daughter in their apartment. In the day leading up to the incident, the two had gone to a fast-food restaurant, where the child refused to eat and preferred playing on her phone instead. Back at home, the woman held her daughter's throat for two to three minutes. Later on, she went to the Rhine in Bad Godesberg, where she needed to be rescued.
At the hospital, the woman reportedly hinted at the situation in her apartment, leading rescue workers to find the lifeless child. Medical professionals attempted to revive her at a clinic while in custody, but sadly, she lost her life the following day. The woman was subsequently arrested.
The Bonn Regional Court, where the trial took place, is located in the city of Bonn. After the incident, the woman went to the Rhine in Bad Godesberg, a city also situated in North Rhine-Westphalia.
