Palestinians: At least 25 dead in Israeli attacks on schools

In the Gaza Strip, at least 25 people were killed on Sunday in an Israeli attack on two schools, according to Palestinian reports. A spokesman for the Hamas-controlled authority told the AFP news agency that there were "at least 25 martyrs, mainly children and women, and 50 injured" following the attack on the Hassan Salameh and Al-Nasr schools in the city of Gaza.

The civil defense spokesman said that Palestinian refugees were housed in the building during the Gaza war. The Israeli army confirmed the attack. Israel accuses Hamas of using schools, hospitals, and other public facilities for military purposes.

Israel has been conducting large-scale military operations in the Gaza Strip since the unprecedented major attack by the Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas on October 7. According to Israeli reports, 1,197 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage in the Hamas attack. 111 people are still being held in the Gaza Strip, with 39 officially reported dead.

According to figures from the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, which cannot be independently verified, around 39,600 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip since then.

The spokesperson from Israel expressed condolences for the loss of lives, acknowledging that among the deceased in the attack were children and women. With his death, the number of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks since then has increased significantly.
